An Uncommon Story

One Story. Two Beginnings.

1926

Long before any of us were born, a faithful group of Jesus followers committed to one another and this community as Belmont Heights Baptist Church. They shared the love of Jesus as a vital part of Westview for decades. But over the last decade, the church endured many transitions and challenges that led to decline and eventually crisis when the Covid pandemic hit. Unlike many stories, though, the small group of remaining members humbly reached out for help.

2025

For several years, God has been stirring the hearts of several families and college students for the campus, churches, and city of Knoxville. And by the summer of 2025, 40+ people will have moved to Knoxville to help start Calvary Commons. Coming from churches across The Salt Network, we share a deep passion for reaching and raising up the next generation by planting a church and college ministry in Knoxville.

One Church. Two Communities.

God has brought together these two groups of people—multiple generations, multiple backgrounds—to replant the church in Westview  in order to reach 1% of the 865, raise up the next generation, and replant other neighborhood churches. We’re convinced that God has brought us together as an uncommon community to cultivate Gospel stories of hope and renewal in people, families, churches, and neighborhoods throughout Knoxville. We’d love for you to join us in this story too!

Ministry Residency

In pursuit of our vision to be a sending hub, we’ve established a two year residency program for raising up the next generation of leaders. So, we are launching with five ministry residents.

What we believe

The Word of God

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

Uncommon Joy

In a world grasping for identity and affirmation, we live with the quiet confidence that we are already fully known and deeply loved by Jesus. This rooted joy frees us to walk humbly, laugh often, and bring light into dark places.

Uncommon Hospitality

We believe every person’s story matters. From college students to long-time neighbors, we open wide our doors and our lives—welcoming the outsider, caring deeply, and giving generously—because that’s what Jesus has done for us.

Uncommon Rhythms

In the noise of hurry and hype, we choose the pace of grace— anchored in abiding with Christ and sharing life together. Formed in gathering, sent in scattering—we live the Gospel 24/7.

Uncommon Sacrifice

Whatever it takes, we’re all in for the Kingdom. We give, serve, and show up in ways the world might not understand, trusting that God uses our ordinary sacrifices to write extraordinary stories of renewal.
